Urology is a field of medicine that deals with the functions and disorders of urinary system in both males and females. The surgical aspects of urinary system viz kidney and bladder disease are also dealt under this specialization.

 

Womens are more likely to develop Urinary tract infections (UTI). UTIs in men are not as common as in women but can be serious when they occur.

  • Stones in the Urinary Tract: Urinary stones (calculi) that form in the urinary tract cause pain, bleeding, infection or even block the urine flow. Usually they begin to develop in the kidneys and may enlarge in a ureter or the bladder.
  • Urinary Tract Obstruction – Urinary tract obstruction is when something partially or completely blocks the tract and thus hinders the free flow of urine through the ureter. Presence of kidney stones, enlarged prostrate in men, a pelvic fracture could be some of the common causes for the obstruction.
